About Us

Cerro Dominador is a company that owns the 210 MW Cerro Dominador solar complex combining a photovoltaic plant plus a 110 MW thermo solar plant. The company, held by funds managed by EIG Global Energry Partners, seeks to contribute to the transformation of the energy matrix by developing renewable energy projects.

Our Vision

Our vision is to encourage the transformation of the Chilean energy matrix, betting on an energy generation that allows a sustainable future.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be a benchmark in the development and management of renewable energy generating plants with Cerro Dominador seal, which implies projects that are framed within a policy of innovation, competitiveness and integrity.

Our History

Cerro Dominador arises in the framework of the Chilean Government bidding through Corfo (Corporación de Fomento de la Producción), aiming at making viable the materialization of a thermal plant of solar power concentration for 110 MW power generation, with 17.5 hours of thermal energy storage in molten salts.

The project will be located in the Atacama Desert, the area with the highest concentration of solar radiation in the world. The solar plant will have a pioneering thermal storage system with 17.5 hours of storage, which gives this technology a high degree of manageability, being able to supply electricity in a stable manner 24 hours a day and allowing it to respond to all periods of energy consumption demand. This project is located in the borough of Maria Elena, in the region of Antofagasta, located to the north of the country. The project has received recognitions for sustainability both nationally and abroad, such as the Inter-American Development Bank Infrastructure 360° award, in the Climate Change and Environment category. The award was given for its commitment to the environment and its contribution to the generation of clean energy, free of greenhouse gas emissions.

The construction of the solar thermal plant began in May 2014, while the photovoltaic plant began in January 2015. In March 2015 EIG Global Energy Partners joined the project, controlling 55% of the project ownership. At the beginning of 2016, construction was slowed down as a result of Abengoa's financial situation. In October 2016, the project becomes the property of EIG, which takes control of the project and begins the reactivation process, the photovoltaic plant in 2017 and the thermo solar plant in 2018. This finance closing for more than USD 760 million received international recognition for being the Best Financing in the Renewable Energy sector in the whole continent, by LatinFinance, Project Finance International and JC Global responsible for Euromoney release.

Our Management

In the world there are almost 6.5 GW of CSP technology plants under operation and construction, which represent approximately 28% of the Chilean installed capacity. In addition, there are more than 3.6 GW in projects under development. Chile can play a key role and in addition to building the first plant of this type, we promote it through different initiatives.
